Hello. My name is Andy. I launched Harrera Images 4 years ago after a 12 year career in national and international press and more recently editorial fashion work. I love photographing people and telling stories with pictures, my goal and wedding style has always been to step beyond the obvious to create moments of genuine sincerity in all the people I am lucky to work with. Working as a wedding photographer over the last 4 years has given me the chance of shooting a combination of artistic documentary pictures with strong defining art based images of the day. A gritty, fashion inspired mindset with a natural flair for documentary is really the backbone of the strengths and look of the work we do.

A big part and a real goal and challenge for me doing wedding photography is to find clients that are ambitious for something genuinely different, something that is not what they would expect or could imagine from their wedding pictures. To walk into the experience of their wedding photography with an open, ambitious and excited mind. To be open to the idea of letting their guard down and to engage in the moment with each other.

A integral part of the way I work is to spend some time with couples before the wedding. A pre shoot ( about a month) before the wedding is an amazing time to pass some ideas on to you about how to get the most from the day. Most importantly it is an opportunity for me to instill confidence in you and for you to go completely go through the process of having some pictures taken and being presented to you before the wedding. Its an opportunity for me to take and show you some pictures beyond obvious or boring mere recordings of a day and show you some pictures of yourselves that above all are moments of comfortable genuine happiness. Only you can make these moments, my job is to make them look beautiful and to put the confidence in you to make those moments with me there working with you. At all parts of your wedding day from getting ready till first dance my job is to notice and record hundreds of tiny moments that leave as quickly as they have come and to record these moments with my eye and my camera using the light and space of where we are to create a set of pictures you will treasure.

As well the the pre shoot another part of what we do is a photography planning day where we dry walk the main events of the day and try to work out the best sequences to add ease and elegance to your day. One of the things we pride ourselves on is the ability to not disrupt your day. With my 12 year press background and my project work I have learned to be completely unobtrusive and patient and along with the advantage of the planning day we will all know what we are doing, all the natural moments are captured, we can make a couple of plans and alternative ideas regarding weather as opposed to just turning up on your wedding day and having our ideas then. This means on the wedding day we don’t have to communicate with you and can leave you to it, knowing that we are not going to fall short on your expectations but taking advantage of every minute. Since I started weddings I have probably been to about 160 and hopefully using this experience may be able to help your day when working out some ideas.

Ever since starting wedding photography the look and style of the pictures has always been of real importance to me. I have always wanted to take the extra step and be ambitious about creating striking, exciting pictures from the weddings I have been involved with. Obviously over the last couple of years we have been really trying to refine the art of the product we produce and making it unique in the UK. It is a constant challenge exploring the use of light and space in the venues we see every week and trying an ever increasing strides into producing something visually

Exploiting low light has always been a strength and a theme and using the black in the images to enhance the feel and look of the photographs is something that does give us our unique look. I love cutting images out of the dark, using fragments of light as natural spot lights and therfore being able to highlight the story or image.

Photography is a tool for recording moments and most of the world has access to this tool, its how we record those moments and use the tools that gives the photographer their value. Most of the guests at your wedding will have a camera, I need to make sure that I am constantly thinking of what I produce can be nothing like what anyone else at your wedding will produce. We thrive on the constant challenge to shoot a set of pictures that falls away from the obvious recording of events with a mid range cheap digital camera and give you a set of pictures that resonate and will do so every time you see them.

I often make a point that the value of your wedding pictures are not necessarily when you receive them but 5, 10, 20 years down the line. To evoke a memory past the visual image to a moment in time where the possibilities were endless.

Wedding photography is a very competitive business with photographers of all levels of ability and experience. Devon Wedding Photographers are no different. Unfortunately for some couples they find this out the hard way with a set of atrocious pictures that will stay with them for the rest of their lives – it’s not like you can have a re shoot.
