The Shoot That No One Wanted

I often do fashion shoots for magazines. Today I decided to feature a shoot that no one wanted. I had fancied doing something studio based for a while but struggled with the idea that I wanted to do. Many bridal magazines normally will cover their mag featuring a white woman with blond hair on a white background with a white dress. I have always liked the idea of pushing the boundaries as much as I can.

(Although saying one of the best and most stylish magazines in the country would never dream of this – Wed Magazine,(http://www.wedmagazine.co.uk/ ) I am very lucky to work with as they constantly are looking for something more interesting.)

Anyway, my style is generally low lit so I took this forward, at the time of the shoot I was experimenting with distressed backgrounds. I ended up ditching this particular background after this shoot as it wasn’t quite right but it was an old military tent cut in the right way to create a big flat area with some seams which was kind of what I was looking for at the time. All of these factors had a start of an idea but didnt really pull it off as I had really imagined, but this is part of being a photographer. Some of the things that you do arent going to be right first time, its a massive learning curve every day. You could be very happy of what your doing and am sure very good but I think sometimes to push an idea or vision that dosent work, it gives you some experience and a gauge for the re shoot, think about things to change and make it closer to the image in your mind.

These pictures never made any magazine, not even the trend setting magazine WedMagazine could be tempted by this slighly dark set of Ian Stuart dresses from a shoot in 2009, although the editors did say they liked the pics it wasnt quite right for the magazine – very clever editors! I have shot several times for them since these pics and always try to pitch a specific ambitious idea to them and its nice probably to cross that line every now and then and be refused, at least I am on line of what will and wont be accepted.
