Surrey was the location of Sarah and Andy’s wedding. They had a lovely church wedding with a marquee back at Sarahs parents house. I had been looking forward to Sarah’s wedding for a while, she had booked me after meeting me through several horse events and photo shoots. It was great working with her, she defiantly had the attitude of leaving me to it yet also an understanding that pictures weren’t going to happen by magic. If I ever spend any time doing anything to set up couples wedding photography it often takes no more than 3-4 minutes from start to finish. We still do need that few minutes though every now and again during the weding and its great when couples want to do something a bit different which may take a bit of co-operation.The planning day also helps to get the ideas together so both me and the couple know what we are going to do.
A really important aspect to the day is seeing what ambition or aspiration the couple has when considering the wedding day pictures. Some couples want me to almost fully document the day which is great as its more what I am used to, having a background in press and news, but likely the couple will want to do some set up or stylized pictures that we sort of decide before the day letting me put my own twist on it. I never tend to make final decisions as even the day before its a bit early to pre conceive ideas. Sometimes its better to have some ball park thoughts, and as ever go with the strengths on the day. Look at how the light is as opposed to forcing an idea that may have looked good on the walk round but really doesn’t pull off as well on the actual moment when your thinking of the picture being taken. Looking around also opens my mind to finding the right combination of light and location (space) at the right time of day. Perhaps to slightly change the original plan and being flexible for the cause of more striking pictures.
They were such a lovely couple and defiantly hope to stay friends with them. I will see them next year as I am also photographing a couple of their friends weddings which I am very much looking forward to.
The couple received 775 images. I have picked 30 ish of my favorites. I often pick the odder photographs as I like the slightly more alternative look and there is a few of the highlights of the wedding. Hope you like.
