Last weekend we travelled up to Hertfordshire again for wedding photography at The Priory Barn. I have done several trips to Hertfordshire for wedding photography recently and have all been great, this week was no exception. I had never been to do a wedding at The Priory Barn before and its always great doing a new venue.
The venue is great, and looks amazing, that amazing look does come with a couple of draw backs photography wise though, its lit from within the room so causes a few shadows under the eyes and it has a weird white balance which made the cameras change all the time trying to compensate. Although difficult, I am always thinking about the idea of going with your strengths in any situation. When you are at a venue there is nothing to be able to change so its good to identify the strengths and work with those. If it is a sunny day work with the sun, if its misty go with the mist. Its all about embracing what you do have as opposed to being put off by them.
In the morning we had a great time getting ready but it was possibly the smallest place I had ever seen a bride get ready in before. It was the most beautiful and interesting cottage but quite small and not much natural light and lots of people but this is a prime example of being able to embrace and engage with the situation and use them to your advantage. It actually turned out to suit my photography as I could stand and position myself in different rooms to which I was photographing and shoot through doors giving the impression of looking in and just being able to document the events whilst framing whatever I am shooting.
Great day and smashing couple, wish them all the best

Lovely shoot fella, especially like the DOF on your black and white and a nice bit of grain. Good to see!
Blimey, the lighting did look challenging, but you’ve come out with some excellent results. If anything it gives the images more impact. Really enjoyed viewing through them.
Really great viewpoints on so many of these, especially the bridal prep shots!
